Old Website content does not Taste Good for Searching Engine
In the electronic world of the Web, content publishing is never set in the proverbial stone. This dynamic factor of the Web sets it apart from all other types of media. Comparing the Web to a print piece— say, a tri-fold brochure—is like comparing a hummingbird to a snail. A hummingbird can cover large amounts of space, changing directions and approaches every couple of seconds. The snail may take several days, perhaps weeks to cover the same amount of ground. The snail can also change directions and approaches, but the trip will be very time-consuming and expensive in terms of energy. The Web is your hummingbird. You can deliver content using one approach; then with a flip of a switch, you can change direction and deliver content using a totally different approach, fairly inexpensively.
The Web is the only media that can, on command, change its delivery of your content. This command can come either from you—the one delivering the content—or from the visitor—the one consuming the content. With this fact in mind, static Web pages get old very quickly. If you don’t make an effort to change your content, delivery system, or something on your pages every couple of months at the minimum, you are shooting yourself in the foot. Remember, although an Internet presence is usually a good thing for a company, it can also work in reverse and be very negative. For example, several sites today contain such outdated material that they are actually harming the images of their companies.
You can learn to use the technological advances of the Web to help you keep a Web site dynamic. Using interactive CGIs, JavaScript, and/or content targeting or rotation, you can make your site inherently changeable every time somebody visits. Whether your site is being viewed once a day or once a second, every page can be different and possibly customized to the particular visitor that is viewing it. Targeting and rotating content is a new and growing field on the Web today that gracefully solves the stale-page problem while providing a very useful service to both content providers and consumers.
